This conference is designed as an opportunity to reflect on the past, present and future of Japanese Studies in Australia. It will bring together distinguished alumni of the Monash University Japanese Studies program, current academics and postgraduate students from across Australia to share experiences and research findings and to re-affirm a shared commitment to fostering critical understanding of Japanese culture and society and stronger ties between Australia and Japan. The conference is timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the teaching program in Japanese Studies at Monash University.

Postgraduate and Honours students engaging with Japan or Japanese studies are encouraged to present at the conference. Papers situated within any discipline and utilising any methodological/theoretical approach are welcome. Travel subsidies are available for students based outside Victoria.
