日本語弁論大会上位入賞者のインターンシップレポート – Tao Lu

今年度の日本語弁論大会で、優秀な成績を収めたTaoさんが、ソフトバンクでのインターンシップレポートを送ってくださいました。

After participating in the 2021 Victorian Japanese Language Speech Contest, I was very fortunate to be nominated through the JCCIM Internship Opportunities Program as a candidate for an internship at ST Solutions Australia PTY LTD
(‘STSA’). Through JCCIM I had the chance to speak to the company Director during the introduction session and began a three-month internship from December 2021 to early March 2022. Currently I’m in my last year of studying Bachelor of Design. Choosing Japanese as my elective course is due to my passion for Japan and its culture. So this internship is a great opportunity for me to foster personal development and learn more about Japan.

As the Australian subsidiary of Japanese tech giant SoftBank Corporation, STSA offers a range of cutting-edge technologies such as robotics and IoT platforms. As a design student majoring in digital media, I have always been interested in the tech industry and wanted to get some hands-on experience in the field. I was grateful to participate in the project utilizing the humanoid robot “Pepper” and able to work remotely with the SoftBank Robotics team in Singapore. During the project, my responsibility involved user interface design, wireframing, high-fidelity prototyping, and testing for the robot application. I also assisted in configuration and front-end coding for the internal demo and commercial application. This allowed me to practice design thinking and improve my coding skills. Team members and my supervisor were friendly and supportive, always giving me constructive feedback and encouraging me to raise ideas for better outcomes. With their help, I feel I’ve become more familiar with the workings of a technology company.

The time I spent at STSA was memorable as it was rich in learning and sharing that helped me develop professional skills and foster personal growth. I was constantly learning something new working in this dynamic environment. Not only did I improve my design and coding skills, the internship further enhanced my soft skills in teamwork, communication, and handling difficult situations, especially under the Covid restrictions. It gave me insight into the tech industry and increased my confidence in pursuing career opportunities. I am very grateful to JCCIM and STSA for giving me the learning opportunity and industry experience.
