日本語弁論大会上位入賞者のインターンシップレポート – Michael

今年度の日本語弁論大会で優秀な成績を収めたマイケル・ミラニーズさんが、オーストラリア三菱商事会社でのインターンシップレポートを送ってくださいました。

As part of the 2017 Victorian Japanese Speech Contest, I also applied for the JCCIM internship opportunity program and was lucky enough to be offered an opportunity to work at Mitsubishi Australia for a week. I have studied Japanese throughout high school and university so being able to work for a Japanese company was a very exciting prospect for me.

As a university student I had only worked at cafes and other small workplaces and never had worked at a large investment company like Mitsubishi Australia. Having no experience, I was quite nervous to start, however everyone was very friendly to me and everyone supported me in having a very fulfilling and smooth week. I learnt a lot about what it is like to work at a large company and gave me my first taste of a full time nine-to-five.

At Mitsubishi I was placed in their “Oceania Strategic Office” which overseas their direction in investments. I was assigned a research project to look into the current state and future of energy in Australia. This involved looking at investment opportunities in areas such as coal, gas and renewables. I found this very interesting as it gave me insight of how much constant and detailed research is required when investigating investment opportunities for large companies which invest millions of dollars into these areas.

Despite the internship being only a week, I took a lot from it. It gave me insight on the corporate world, confidence in entering the workforce and significant networking connections. The JCCIM program is very rewarding and would recommend it to anybody entering the Japanese Speech Contest. Thank you to everybody at Mitsubishi Australia for the great experience and to JCCIM for making it all possible.
