”The Hamer Scholarships Program  – Study Japanese in Japan”

 

The Hamer Scholarships offer Victorians the opportunity for language study and cultural engagement with Japan.

 

Japan continues to be a leader in today’s international economy. It is recognised as a centre for innovation and is an attractive business and living environment.

 

Live and study in Japan and improve language skills and cultural understanding; develop business and people-to-people networks; and contribute to Victoria’s international engagement.

 

  • Hamer Scholarships for intensive language study in Japan are valued at $15,000.
  • The scholarships are offered for a minimum of one semester (5-6 months) at selected universities and institutions in Japan.
  • Hamer Scholarship application Rounds:
    Round 1 – March – April
    Round 2 – August – September
    Check website for exact application opening / closing dates.
  • The program is open to Victorians aged 21 or above who are Australian citizens or permanent residents (Victorians living and working in Japan may be considered).
  • The scholarships are primarily aimed at Victorians working in the public, private, not-for-profit and creative and academic industries with linkages to Japan.
  • Applicants should demonstrate how the scholarship would significantly benefit their business, career path, study plan, or their employer’s current or future engagement with Japan.
  • Scholarship recipients will become business, cultural and educational representatives for Victoria.

    and regional strategic environment to ensure peace, security and prosperity.
  • Japan is home to many of the world’s leading companies and SMEs specialising in high-end technology and R&D which support global firms.
  • Victoria and Japan have shared a close and historic relationship with strong people-to-people links.
  • A Victorian Government Business Office, which focuses on trade and investment opportunities, is located in Tokyo. In 1980, Victoria and Aichi Prefecture established a sister-state relationship. Melbourne and Osaka have shared an active sister-state relationship since 1978.
