Developed countries have pledged as a group to mobilise climate finance to developing countries reaching US$100 billion per year by 2020, ramping up from an initial fast-start‘ commitment of $30 billion for the period 2010-12.

Australia has committed $599 million to the global three-year fast-start effort. At 30 June 2012, Australia had allocated A$563 million (94 per cent) of its fast-start finance to adaptation and mitigation initiatives in developing nations.

The total international commitment comprises financing from both public and private sources for climate change mitigation and adaptation in developing countries. Private finance could become a substantial source of funding for mitigation activities in developing countries.

Join the conversation with an expert panel to discuss:

  • The Australian Government commitment to climate finance;
  • The global Green Climate Fund (GCF) and Australia’s fast-start finance contribution;
  • Issues of transparency and accountability for climate finance governance.
  • Investor perspective on climate finance: challenges and opportunities and the role of the investment community.
  • Community development perspective on climate finance: achieving sustainable development objectives, building sustainable livelihoods and climate resilience;
  • Experiences and opportunities for cross-sector collaboration
